Term 1 Reflection

In term 1 it has been a tough term for me. We have learnt a lot, and I mean a lot. I think that I have improved a lot in Maths. Because I have learnt a whole heap of strategies to answer the easy/hard questions that are given from my teacher. Maths has always energizes and wakes up my mind.

I still need to work on writing. In writing for an example when you are writing a story, you need to retell it with detail and very good words. Because when I write I’m writing with details, its just that I put the words in the wrong place. I still need to write like a proper year 7 does. So all I need to do to read books, not picture books more like chapter books.

This term I am most proud of playing sports. I’ve only played one sport this term and it was softball. Now next term there going to be a lot of sports. I love playing sports, it helps me get fit and living a healthy life. My favourite sport is Rugby, touch and volley. I love playing it with my friends and my family.

My 3 goals to do next term on term 2 is…..1) To listen to the teacher to know all the instructions. I really need to make that as my goal because when my teacher Mrs Lagitupu talks I start talking to my friends. 2) Finishing all my tasks such as Math Whizz, Xtramath, Studyladder and my group questions. Because I don’t go on it often when I have to. 3 and last) To not muck around during class time. Now that covers everything and I really need to set that one as my goal. I always talk to my friends not using my time wisely.

Highlight for this term. My highlight was FiaFia. FiaFia was really really extremely fun. I thought that our school performed really well. And we made our families, community very proud!.

Fiafia Reflection

When I was performing I felt pretty awesome, because everyone in my group (Hip Hop) was enjoying it. They had smiles on their faces and they were dancing with enthusiasm. I heard many people cheering. I was so nervous when I performed, but no one could tell because all I had on my face was a big fake smile to hide the nervousness.

Our dance was awesome. We had really cool moves choreographed by a lovely year 8 prefect girl named Mele Lavaka. The song we danced to was ‘Identity’ by Lecrae and ‘Happy’ by Pharrell Williams. It was really funny because we had minions in our dance. Our tutor chose the craziest boys. They were: Logan, Auri, Isaiah and also Levi. Heaps of people laughed really loud when they saw them. And as for us, we just chuckled.

My highlight for Fiafia was watching our school performing their hardest. Making their parents proud, our school, tutors and the community. All the performances were great, they danced with passion and with pride.

Thank you to Miss King, Miss Paget and Mele. You have been wonderful tutors and Mele your moves were awesome. I know we have not been listening to you during the practice but at least our business is done! Thank you, Thank you Thank you!

Self Confident

Six Sentence Story

Once upon a time there was a woman named Sina. She lived in a very small town. Sina has a gift of singing….but the only problem is she has stage fright and no one knows about her talent! She loves old school songs and the 1990’s songs. She solved this problem by singing in front of her family, she was so shy. And she started to get use to it so she moved up a level and sang in front of a big audience.

Anzac Day

On the 25th of April it is ANZAC Day. Do you know what ANZAC stands for? A. Australia, NZ: New Zealand, A. Army, C. Corps. We are celebrating the deaths of our people. Fighting for our country at Gallipoli in Turkey against the Ottoman Empire. Lots of people from Auckland and John Key goes to the Auckland Museum to celebrate. Celebrating by putting flowers on the statue. Wearing a poppy and singing the New Zealand National Anthem. And a man plays a cornet. 

ANZAC Day is very special to us NZ and Australians. We are going to celebrate it on the 25th of April!!!

All about me

In extension our 1st task of the year was to design all the important informations about you. As you can see there is a picture above. The first picture it shows a rugby goal post and a volleyball net. Those two sports are one of my favourites. It is fun to play and we play it a lot in our family.

The second picture is a picture of the Samoan flag. Under the Samoan flag there its a thing called a 'ava. The Samoans do it a lot, it is for a special occasion. There are 3 objects in the 'ava. The bowl is called a Tanoa, the cup is called a Ipu tau ava and the strainer is called a Fau.

The third design is of a Bible and a Cross. Which means that I believe in The Lord and I go to church. I go to Tamaki P.I.P.C. I bet your wondering what does P.I.P.C means? It means Pacific Islanders Presbyterian Church. My grandpa is the minister of that church. He knows lots about God.

And the last design is of my Netbook. I really love my Netbook. It is very fun to work with, better than a pencil and a paper. My fingers never get tired from a Netbook. My Netbook is very special to me as well. And that is my design about me.

Festival of Education

On Saturday the 22nd of March our extension group went to Town at the Viaduct Events Centre. Our extension group had the opportunity to go there to learn new things about education. We had to make a movie with a colleague.

My partner was Gloria. Gloria is one of the leaders (prefect) in my school, so I was very lucky to have her. So first I recorded Gloria entering the Viaduct Centre, saying her oral.

When I have finished recording her, it was my turn. Gloria and I explored everywhere, searching for people, asking them questions. The questions we asked was “What is your booth about?” and “What has it got to do with education?” We gave them thought provoking questions and we received some fascinating answers.

We had a lot of fun! Interviewing people and meeting new friends. Gloria and I got lots of candies from lots of booths. At the end we had to show our favourite interview or part on the big screen. Our favourite part was singing with this Maori lady. She played the ukulele and Gloria sang along with her. When we had finished showing our movies we took a photo of us with Meredith and John. “Festival of Education was awesome!!”

Skills for adolesence

For our inquiry rotation with Miss Clark we have been learning about the word "Adolescence". Do you know what it means??  It means going from a child to an adult. Their these questions above that Miss Clark gave to us. 

Cyclone Lusi

A cyclone was located in Auckland, New Zealand during the weekend. So far , we saw heavy rain , a system of strong winds and a bit of storm.  But we had been expecting  heavy thunder, big tornados , dark clouds and really really heavy rain! This cyclone has been mostly hitting the North part of Auckland.  

But first. What is a cyclone? A cyclone is when high winds and  bad rain come upon us. There are all types of severe cyclones such as Tropical, midlatitude, and subtropical. Other types are mesocyclones, tornadoes, dust devils and steam devils. (http://www.ask.com/question/types-of-cyclones)Those cyclones are all very dangerous! So watch your back! Cyclone can create gale force wind, and that means that the winds of the cyclone are uncontrollable.

The possibilities of a cyclone: Power outages, severe injuries, death accidents, food and water shortages, broken buildings, land slide. Power outages can happen when the storm strikes the power line. Deaths or accidents can mostly happen on the road or outside. Buildings can be tumbled down by trees falling and the gale force winds pushing against the house.

How can I ever be prepared? To be prepared for the Cyclone, it’ll be best to pack some food and drinks , in case you’re starving or thirsty. Close all windows and all doors , so you and your belongings are kept safely. Pack a radio and some battery , to listen what is going to happen next. Especially you need to keep your family safe from the cyclone! Usually in a cyclone , the power outages gets cut off that's why its best to pack a torch or some candles. Don’t forget some clothes!

War Diary

Dear Family and Friends,

Richard Seddon has sent us to war to serve the South Africans. We were only allowed to bring a couple of water and food. Some of my friends are seriously damaged but don't worry they are well looked after. I am so happy that the queen was on the behalf of New Zealand as well.

We eat the same food over and over again. It doesn’t feel the same, I really miss you guys and I feel homesick. I feel so concerned everyday, and I heard that you guys are safe and I am so happy to hear that.  Richard Seddon let us have been training really hard for this war in Wellington. And it’s really tiring, but its worth it.

Fia Fia

Did you know that we have an event called “Fiafia” at our school?

Fia Fia is when we celebrate something for our school, and sometimes we just do it! Last year we had Fia Fia right in the beginning of the year. It was for Pt England’s 60th anniversary. But this year our teachers just want us to have Fia Fia because it’s really fun and entertaining.

Every Thursday we have practices for Fiafia. I’m in the Hip Hop group. My tutors are Miss King and Miss Paget. During the past weeks we have been learning some dance moves for 1 song, well 1 part of the song. Thats why the next practice which is next week we are having Easter who is a really good dancer helping us.

I hope you can come to our Fia Fia. It will be fun and entertaining at the same time! And there will be shops at the Fia Fia. So come along and watch us perform!

Toy Design

What is Sketchup..? Sketchup is a designing programme where you create lots of stuff. It is a 3D design tool. If you need to draw something 3D all you need to do is go on Sketchup. Sketchup is fun and creative.

Lots of people around the world use Sketchup. Especially teachers, students, designers and perhaps anyone in the world. Teachers might use it for making something for their class. Students might use it for a project at school. Designers…….well that’s pretty easy! Designers might use it for creating something, like a car or a robot. And you might just use it for fun!

In Sketchup there are lots of tools. There are shapes, tool bar, rotating tool, eraser, selector, shift pad and more. All those features are very helpful. When you first start it will be very hard. There will be tools at the top and it will be so confusing because you don't know which tool is which. But I know that in the end you will figure them out.

In our class our task was to make a 3D toy for the Junior classes. We are making it on Sketchup. Our class had to keep the Junior class entertained if they are bored. So we have been working everyday to make toys for our juniors. They toy I have designed is a minion. Nearly all the kids I interviewed wanted it. So here is the picture of my minion that I have made on Sketchup.  

Sketchup is very special because you can create anything. It is very special because it is fun learning. And also it is fun because you can print it out as a 3D object. And right now I am making a minion in Sketchup. You should use Sketchup as well, it is fun and totally amazing. Go try it out!

The Duffy Show

Yesterday afternoon we went to watch the book lover, he loves reading books and his name is Duffy. It was pretty cool but what I didn’t like the heat in the hall. Everyone was sweating but not as sweaty as the Duffy characters, Rosie, Duffy of course and Bingo the rugby player.

This show was about Duffies uncle Bingo who plays rugby but didn’t like reading, he said that Books aren’t his thing. But Rosie had a book that she wanted to give Bingo. So Duffy and Rosie tries to help him by making “The Best Book Ever” We had to make weird noises. Whenever Duffy opens the book we had to make that sound that he told us to make.

When they were done making the best book ever, Bingo came out from the bathroom finishing combing his hair and said “Oh I’m going now” He waved his hand in goodbye. “But wait!” shouted Duffy. “You have to come and read this book its called “The Best Book Ever” Bingo walked back in and stared at the book. Duffy slowly opened the book and suddenly they were all tangled up with madness.

All the noises we made was on them literally on them. The pirates was on them, the wild things and all the noises we made. In order to get them out we had make the sounds we did. On Duffy there was a spider on him and the spider is from the wild, so we made a snake sound “Ssssssssss” When he got out it was Rosies turn she had a pirate beside her. “Arrrrgggghhhh” we shouted. “Get off! Gett off! Theres a fly on me.” Bingo cried. But it was a dinosaur. “Aaaaaaah” Bingo got out and ran to the door and said “Thanks for…...thanks for uh whatever that was” And he ran to catch a cab and went straight to the airport to Sydney, Australia for his grand Finale.

Duffy and his friend Rosie were sad. They had nothing left to do. “Good evening Bingo” said the flight hostess. Bingo went to the plane and sat down. “Please fasten your seatbelt while on the flight. Thank you” said the flight attendant. Bingo was really bored, on his hand was a present wrapped in grey wrapping paper. “Oh whats that on your hand. Its grey, grey is my favourite colour. You should open it” said the fly hostess.

When the woman left Bingo decided to open the present. “Open it! Open it!!” His left arm shouted. “I am, I am just wait!” Bingo opened it and it was a book from Rosie. It was her favourite book and that book was about ballet. Bingo opened the book and started reading.

About a few hours later it was time for Bingos grand finale. “Turn on the TV!! Bingos on!” shouted Rosie. Duffy quickly ran to the Television and turned it on. On the TV Bingo was on it he was running he was passing the ball to his left and right and when he got the ball he started doing ballet. “What is he doing”??” Duffy asked. “He read my book! Bingo read my book!” shouted Rosie.

Bingo was doing a ballet dance while running for the try. He jumped up and twirled and scored for the try! The crowd goes wild! “Yeeeeaaaaah Bingo!” The camera men and the news reporter ran to Bingo and asked “How did you feel about that?” Bingo was so tired that he said “I feel awesome and that was all because of Rosie and Duffy” Rosie and Duffy were so happy. And now Bingo loves reading books. THE END!!  

What are the 3 Ps?

Tomorrow we are having a holiday for Waitangi day. Its the day where Maoris and English untied. And here are the three P’s.

1. Protection: For an example, when someone is getting bullied always defend and protect them. But if you're the one getting bullied just stand up and protect yourself. For an example at P.E.S we need to protect our gears, taking charge, keeping our school tidy and especially protecting little kids by being a role model and being cybersmart.

2. Partnership: Partnership means working together. For an example when you're playing a sport all you need is team work, you need to co-operate and support each other. You need to be united with other people come together and work together. And that's all you need to do. For an example at P.E.S we need to love one another and care about them. P.E.S we always need to be kind and help other people.  

3. Participation: Participation what does it mean? The first three syllables in Participation is “Part”. For an example at school rugby trials are coming up and you love it. You know what to do take “Part” in it. Joining in and volunteering to play. For an example at P.E.S we need give it a go. Some people want to play but they are scared they might not make it in. That's why you just give it a go. And that's what you need to know about “Participation”.

Holiday Highlight

My highlight was going to the movies to watch frozen. It was alright. 
But my little cousins Eden and Eva they thought it was “AWESOME”. They loved every part of the movie.
And they loved the song "Let it go" sung by Elsa. 
They always sang it when the movie finished. My cousins were pretty addicted to the song.

My favourite character in the movie “Frozen” was..........well its pretty obvious because nearly everyone likes him. And his name is Olaf. If you don’t who Olaf is, he's a funny snowman created by Anna’s sister Elsa the Snow Queen. He was so hilarious. This character Olaf must be really hard to create because he can move his body parts around!

Well apart from the movie it was fun spending time with my little cousins and even my auntie and uncle. Who is your favourite character and why??
